It's time to think about what kind of tracker you'd like to make!
Some ideas for your design might include:
Savings or Debt Payoff Tracker
Hydration Tracker
Chore or Project Tracker
Open a new browser tab and log into Canva with your account information. Select the "Create a Design" button to start your project. A standard flyer sized 8.5"x11" is a good place to start.
Return to this page to watch the introduction video to the design interface before you get started in Canva.
**This video will give you a brief introduction to the interface you will be using to create your goal tracker.
Helpful hint: use the "Search" tool to find inspiration for your tracker. Templates can be edited to suit your needs so if you like part of a pre-made example, you can change the parts that don't work for you.
2. Use the image on the left to familiarize yourself with the interface where you'll design your tracker. Your blank project is in the workspace on the right side of the screen and your tools are along the left side navigation panel.
3. Select the "Elements" tab and then click "Shapes" to pick the shape you will use in your tracker. Clicking it once will insert that shape into your blank project.
4. Using the "Move" tool, click and drag your shape around the project to align the shape to the desired position. Resize your shape by clicking and dragging the handles to make your shape bigger or smaller. (See images below for additional explanation of these tools.)
5. After your shape is in the right spot, right click on the shape itself and select "Duplicate" to create a clone of the original shape.
6. Repeat the "Duplicate" command as many times as you need to create enough shapes for one row, moving your shapes into alignment as they are created.
7. Once you have enough shapes for one row of your tracker, click and drag a selection box over the whole row of shapes. When all the shapes are selected, click "Group" in the mini toolbar above the shape selection. This turns the individual shapes into one cohesive row of your tracker.
8. Right-click on your new element and select Duplicate" again. Repeat until you have enough rows to suit your needs. Use the "Move" tool to align your new rows of elements using the purple alignment guides that appear as you're moving around the design screen.
9. Now the fun part! Jazz up your design by adding a background, accent elements, or text to customize your tracker. Text can be added to the center of each shape without ungrouping the rows if desired.
10. After you're satisfied with your design, use the "Share" button located at the top right corner of your project page. From here, you can download a PDF to print out and hang up somewhere visible. The more you see it, the more you'll be likely to use it!
Left: The "Move" tool looks like a four-way arrow (circled in red).
Right: The "Resize" handles are located along the edges of the shape and in the corners. Clicking and dragging the circles will maintain the proportions of the shape while pulling from the sides could potentially stretch and distort the shape.
If you learn better by doing while the instructions are given verbally, this audio might help you conquer the "Duplicate" tool to fill up your goal tracker! This clip will explain in more detail the steps 4-9 described in text above.
